Topic Importance: Long COVID (Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2, “PASC”) is a debilitating condition that often shares overlapping symptoms with myalgic encephalomyelitis / chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), such as extreme fatigue, post-exertional malaise (PEM) and orthostatic intolerance. Scientists don’t fully understand why this happens.

Deconditioning has been suggested as a cause for exercise intolerance in these patients, but the results of Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET) argue against it. Instead, issues with blood flow and oxygen use seem to be relevant.

This review aims to highlight the similarities between Long COVID and ME/CFS in terms of exercise-related issues, which could help guide future diagnostics and treatment for both conditions.
